چکیده

When insiders (management) of a firm have more information than outsiders (investors) then insiders’ desire to sell overpriced securities creates an Adverse Selection problem. To mitigate the problem, the Pecking-Order hypothesis proposes that debt finance should dominates equity finance. But according to the debt rationing literature, debt finance is also prone to the Adverse Selection problem. The paper addresses the puzzle by allowing firms to issue both debt and equity together and by having a general notion of what it is that insiders know more about. We show that safe firms use more equity than risk firms to credibly signal their type to investors. The paper provides a generalization of the existing financial signalling literature and reconciles previously contradictory findings. JEL-Classification codes: G32, D82

The Origin and Limitations of Modern Mathematical Economics: A Historical Approach

We have first demonstrated that Debreu’s view regarding the publication of The Theory of Games and Economic Behavior by von Neumann and Morgenstern in 1944 as the birth of modern mathematical economics is not convincing. In this paper, we have proposed the hypothesis that the coordinated research programs in the 1930’s, initiated by the Econometric Society and the Cowles Commission for Research...

Financial Risk Modeling with Markova Chain

Investors use different approaches to select optimal portfolio. so, Optimal investment choices according to return can be interpreted in different models. The traditional approach to allocate portfolio selection called a mean - variance explains. Another approach is Markov chain. Markov chain is a random process without memory. This means that the conditional probability distribution of the nex...

A Unified Approach to Generate Risk Measures By

The paper derives many existing risk measures and premium principles by minimizing a Markov bound for the tail probability. Our approach involves two exogenous functions v(S) and (S,p) and another exogenous parameter ≤ 1. Minimizing a general Markov bound leads to the following unifying equation: , . z S v S E E p = ^ ] h g 8 6 B @ For any random variable, the risk measure p is the solution to ...

Comparison of Performance of Traditional Value at Risk Models with Switching Model in Tehran Stock Exchange

The problem of portfolio optimization has made many advances since Markowitz proposed an average-variance-based optimization. It can be said that the most important achievement of the Markowitz model was the introduction of variance as a risk indicator and indeed, the introduction of a quantitative benchmark into it. This research is a model for predicting value at risk. This model extends the ...
